Encore Saloon probably has one of the best Tequila and Mezcal selections in the country that rival that of only a few California Tequila Bar restaurants. They import cases of liquor directly from Mexico and it seems to be working as you won’t find a better Tequila or Mezcal Selection on any of the islands. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and eager to educate on the ever expanding drink line up.
While Tequila can only be made from one type of Blue Agave. Mezcal is a type of Agave liquor and can be made from “any type” of Agave. Tequila is usually produced in the Mexican state of Jalisco, and most Mezcal is made in Oaxaca. Mezcal is generally associated with a smokey taste but can also have many other taste notes associated with it too.
Shown above is a nice sipping Mezcal, with a side of worm salt in a traditional gourd cup known as a “Jicarita.”
